ZHOU Qi, Ph.D., is a professor in life sciences, and is now the Vice President and Member of the Presidium of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is also the Secretary of the Party Committee and President of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. ZHOU is CAS Member and Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS). Prof. ZHOU's research interests cover stem cell, reproductive and developmental biology, and he is also dedicated to promoting the application of stem cells to clinical use. He has been serving as the chief scientist of several national and CAS research projects in areas of reproductive and developmental biology, and stem cells. He has made innovative and significant achievements in animal cloning, improving cloning efficiency, revealing regulatory mechanisms of stem cell pluripotency and cell fate decision, generation of new types of stem cells, mammalian same-sex reproduction, obtaining gametes in vitro, establishing stem cell resource center, and clinical application of stem cells. Prof. ZHOU has been awarded many prizes and honors, including the National Natural Science Award (second-class) of China, the Award for Outstanding Achievements in Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Award for Outstanding Youth in Basic Sciences of Zhou Guang Zhao Foundation, the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, the 3rd genOway Prize for Transgenic Technologies, and TWAS Prize in Biology.
