Human Organ Physiopathology Emulation System(HOPE)

The Human Organ Physiopathology Emulation (HOPE) System was designed through multidisciplinary integration based on the concept of “creating components, assembling systems, and simulating functions.” It is envisioned as a world-leading, large-scale comprehensive platform for simulating human physiological and pathological processes. The main construction includes four core systems: the organ component manufacturing system, the organ function simulation system, the user-customized application system, and the central service station. The HOPE system facilitates the large-scale amplification of hundreds of billions of cells and the integrated development of centimeter-scale organs. It also enables the modular assembly of diverse organ components, efficient simulation of over 15 physiological functions, multi-scenario modeling of more than 20 pathological conditions, and the standardized compilation of extensive datasets through the central service station. The goal of this system is to accurately simulate human physiological and pathological states, facilitate detailed analyses of complex human functions and regulatory mechanisms, and offer a standardized, open environment for studying disease mechanisms, testing drugs, and advancing regenerative medicine. This platform holds profound significance for life science research and biopharmaceutical development.

The project received approval for its investment estimate from the National Development and Reform Commission in December 2023, began construction in January 2024, and is planned to take 5 years. The implementing entity for the project is the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the construction site is in the Huairou National Comprehensive Science Center in Beijing.
