Summery

Peter Cowan received his PhD in microbial genetic engineering from the University of Melbourne, and worked in the biotechnology industry until 1994 when he joined the xenotransplantation program at the Immunology Research Centre (IRC), St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He is currently Co-Director and Chief Scientist of the IRC and is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne. He is Secretary-Treasurer of the International Xenotransplantation Association, and Associate Editor of the journal Xenotransplantation. He has been an invited speaker at 12 international transplantation meetings since 2001 and has published approximately 100 peer-reviewed journal papers, review articles, book chapters and letters since 1996. His research interests in xenotransplantation include the immunobiology of rejection, genetic manipulation of the porcine donor, and dysregulation of coagulation in the xenograft setting.
