The Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS hosted the International Conference on Sci. & Tech. Strategy between CAS and North European Countries on April 11 to 13 in Beijing. More than 50 representatives from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark as well as the relevant bureaus and institutes of CAS attended the conference. Vice- chairman of National People’s Congress, CAS President Professor LU Yongxiang delivered an important speech at the conference, accompanied by the CAS Vice President Professor CHEN Zhu and Deputy Secretary-general Professor GUO Huadong.

The objective of this conference is to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between CAS and North European Countries in the fields of science and technology. Director of IOZ Professor Zhang Zhibin attended the conference with Professor Nils C. Stenseth, the visiting scholar under the support of IOZ Albert Einstein Professorship. Both gave an speech and joined the discussion for promoting the international cooperation on the influence of global climate change on animal disease, early alert and control of agricultural disasters, biodiversity conservation and functions of eco-system. During the conference, CAS president Professor LU Yongxiang, Vice President Professor CHEN Zhu and Deputy Secretary-general Professor GUO Huadong made a brief meeting with Professor Nils C. Stenseth. IOZ Director Professor Zhang Zhibin held talks with Mr. Werner Christie, Norway Sci. & Tech. Counsellor and Mr. Line Amlaud Hagen, Norway Scientific Research Committee for the further cooperation.
