A delegation of US experts, specialized in global climate change, visited Institute of Zoology (IOZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on October 12th, 2007. Director of IOZ, Prof. Zhibin Zhang, Deputy Director of IOZ, Prof. De-Xing Zhang, met with the US experts and attended the symposium afterward.

At the symposium, the experts gave brilliant lectures in terms of global warming and the protection of biodiversity. Dr. John Spotila, President of the Global CAUSE Foundation, delivered a lecture entitled The Importance of Working Together to Respond to Global Warming, giving an overall introduction about the causes, consequences and coping solutions of global warming. Dr. James Spotila, the Betz Chair Professor of Environmental Science at Drexel University in Philadelphia, made a speech about the effect of global warming on biodiversity. Prof. Shidong Zhao, from Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS, gave a lecture with regard to the ecosystem and human welfare. Many researchers and students from IOZ and some other related institutes attended the symposium. The excellent lectures exercised great influences on the audience.

After the symposium, the experts of US delegation paid a visit to the Museum of Specimen in IOZ, and had high comment on the various collections in the museum.

This visit of US delegation aimed to enhance the collaboration in the research of global warming and the protection of biodiversity, laying a good foundation for further collaboration between the two parties.
