National Zoological Museum of China (NZMC) collected 75,000 animal specimens in Mongolia after accomplishing the second investigation there from June 29 to July 28.
The investigation was a major part of the collaborative research project on specimen diversity in the Mongolian Plateau. To ensure its implementation, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences signed an agreement with Institute of Plant Protection, Mongolian Academy of Agricultural Sciences to conduct a three- year collaborative investigation in Mongolia.
It was NZMC’s second investigation focusing on the northern area of Mongolia. The 26-member group weathered through all kinds of difficulties and covered over 3,000 miles to accomplish the collection of 75,000 animal specimens including mammals, birds, fish, insects, invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles. All the 75,000 specimens and relevant materials had been under the conservation of NZMC together with the 50,000 specimens collected in the first investigation in 2009.
According to the project, NZMC would continue its investigation to cover most of Mongolia’s span within two years.
