Academic Report: Gene regulation in aphid phenotypic plasticity
[ 2009-10-14 ]

TitleGene regulation in aphid phenotypic plasticity

  SpeakerDr. Denis Tagu,

Senior scientist at INRA-Rennes,UMR 1099 BiO3P lab, France

Abstract: AphidBase has been developed as the international aphid genomics database. Here will present some examples of how this genome knowledge and the associated post-genomics tools have progressed our understanding of phenotypic plasticity in aphids. Phenotypic plasticity of reproductive mode in aphids is dependent on re-programming of developmental pathways, including sensing of the input, transduction of the signal, and effect on differentiation. A transcriptomic approach has been developed to identify mRNAs that are regulated during the switch of reproductive mode in the pea aphid. In addition, we identified microRNAs in the pea aphid and showed some of them to be regulated by shortening of the photoperiod.
