- The Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS), with support from the International Cooperation Bureau, CAS is proud to offer “International Training Course: New Trends and Methodology in Animal Ecology and Conservation Biology” in Beijing, 18-26 August, 2011.
- The training sessions aim to:
- Promote new theories, changes, and developments in methodology of animal ecology, along with promoting new technologies in the field, and conservation biology,
- Enhance the overall academic understandings and innovation of animal ecology and conservation biology, and
- Facilitate communication among animal ecologists and conservationists from developing countries, and offer a platform for face-to-face communication with leading scientists.
Leading scientists of biology and conservation biology from China and abroad will give lectures to researchers from developing countries, especially targeting young scientists and senior researchers. The courses will introduce new concepts in cutting edge science, highlighting latest progress and trends, with an emphasis on application and practice.
Through these courses, participants will master new theories, techniques and methodology of animal ecology and conservation biology, as well as understand cutting edge trends in research on animal ecology and conservation biology.
The training courses will culminate in an examination. Qualified participants will be awarded a certificate issued by the Institute of Zoology, CAS and ISZS and become a member of ISZS.

4. Participants
The training courses are mainly held for developing countries. We welcome dedicated graduate students, post-doctoral and young scientists. Space is limited; first come, first serve.
Prerequisites for participants:
1) Professional background: researcher, post-doctoral and graduate students in the fields of animal ecology, conservation biology, zoology, environmental science, protected area management, wildlife management, and other related fields.
2) English language requirements: good listening and speaking skills.
3) We would like to suggest you prepare your own laptop (both Mac and PC are acceptable) as you may need to download and install some relevant training software.
5. Fees
The application fee for the training course is US$200, including materials and meals. Participants should arrange accommodation and travel expenses on their own.

6. Financial Aid
We will sponsor a few exceptional scientists for these courses. Those interested in applying for aid, please submit a letter of intent, two reference letters and a current CV together with the application form. In the letter of intent, applicants should address why they deserve financial aid, and what they plan to do with the skills acquired.
