Min Thu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Myanmar, and his delegation visited the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

On April 8, 2024, in order to further strengthen the cooperation between China and Myanmar in biodiversity research and conservation, a delegation of eight people, including Min Thu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Myanmar, Thaung Naing Oo, Director of the Department of Forestry of Myanmar, and Soe Tint, Director of the Myanmar Forestry Research Institute, visited the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute of Zoology"). Quan Ruichang, deputy director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other officials accompanied the visit. Zhan Xiangjiang, deputy director of the Institute of Zoology, received the delegation.

At the reception, Zhan Xiangjiang, on behalf of the Institute of Zoology, warmly welcomed the arrival of Myanmar, introduced the overview of the institute, reviewed the history of cooperation between the two sides, and expressed expectations for promoting mutual visits and deepening collaborative research between personnel from both sides. Min Thu expressed great pleasure in visiting the Institute of Zoology and expressed sincere gratitude for its warm reception. He hoped that through this visit, the friendship between the two sides could be further enhanced, and scientific exchanges and cooperation in related fields could be strengthened.

The Myanmar delegation, accompanied by researchers Li Shuqiang and Hou Zhong'e from the Institute of Zoology, visited the National Museum of Zoology and the National Animal Specimen Resource Bank.

Dr. Zhang Jinshuo, Deputy Director (in charge of the work) of the National Museum of Zoology, vividly and meticulously explained to the delegation the animal specimens and their species characteristics, population status, protection measures, historical stories, etc. in the collection of the National Museum of Zoology. He also led the delegation to visit the special exhibition "Treasure of Baoxing: Witnessing the Cultural Exchange between China and France" at the National Museum of Zoology.

At the National Animal Specimen Resource Bank, branch administrators Dr. Jiang Chunyan, Dr. He Peng, and Dr. Zhu Xichao successively introduced rare specimens of insects, birds, and mammals, as well as some of the specimen making processes. The delegation expressed their admiration and took great interest in writing as a souvenir.
