State Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Reproductive Biology (SRLab) was established in 1991 by merging Laboratory of Reproductive Biology (LRB) and Laboratory of Endocrinology, which were previously affiliated to Institute of Zoology (IOZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The establishment of SRLab is a milestone for the improvement of research environment for Chinese reproductive biologists. We are greatly indebted to Professor Zhi-Yi Zhang, the former Director of LRB, Academician and Acting Director of Biological Sciences Division of CAS, for his creating a new working concept in reproductive research in China and for his indispensable contribution to the establishment of SRLab. Looking back, it is no doubt that SKLRB has been acting as a pioneer in China in promoting basic research , national and international collaborations, as well as pre- and post-doctoral training in the field of reproductive biology. Our aim is to develop the lab into an international excellence in the field of reproductive biology in the next 10 years.

The SRLab is located on the new IOZ campus which is very close to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Park. Each year it receives the running budget from Chinese government and CAS. SRLab also acted as the Chinese Center for WHO/Rockefeller Foundation (RF) Initiative on Implantation and was under the support of RF from 1979 to 2004. The main research activities of SKLRB are annually evaluated by a scientific committee composed of 15 highly established Chinese scientists. At present, SRLab is comprised of 18 independent research groups and staffed by 59 including 19 professors, 5 associate professors, 28 assistant professors and research associates, 7 core facility staff. SRLab also opens all its facilities to a selected number of competitive, particularly young scientists from Institutions and Universities all over the country and the world.
