Research in this theme is conducted around the significant scientific problems of the diversity and evolution in various animal groups. Research emphasis is laid on taxonomy, phylogeny, biogeography, evolution, and speciation in important animal groups, and the evolutionary rules which are influenced by the special environment and important geological events, through both the morphological and molecular data. The research is dedicated to provide scientific basis, technical support and strategic consultation for national economic development, ecological development, environmental security, and sustained utilization of animal resources in China and will serve for satisfying national demand and improving public education by providing knowledge of systematics and zoology.
